Metal Conservation

In 2014 the Museum developed an on-site workshop for the preservation, conservation and maintenance of metal objects such as shackles, iron bars, ammunition boxes, handcuffs and bedsprings in the Museum’s collection. Along with the conservation process, workshop staff are compiling an inventory of all the metal objects in the Museum’s collection. To date, 1,185 objects have been inventoried; 12 of these objects have fully undergone restoration and conservation.

In the future, the Museum plans to exhibit its extensive metal collection also furniture and equipment like typewriter, telephones etc. and to provide access for researchers.
